The beautiful surroundings are noted for their fishing, walking, golfing,
horse riding and now are a first class destination for mountain biking
Eshiels Toll was the original toll house for the eastern approach to
Peebles and dates from 1773. It and has since been extended to become
a charming, south-facing, detached cottage set in its own mature multi-level
gardens.
The Royal Burgh of Peebles is a bustling Borders market town with a rich
history dating back before the 12th century reign of King David. It stands on the famous River Tweed and is surrounded by
leafy woodland and rolling hills. You will often collect a friendly greeting from the people of Peebles as
they throng the busy High Street with its specialist local shops and charming
country town atmosphere. A welcome new addition at the east end of the High
Street is Eastgate Theatre and Arts Centre, a beautiful church conversion that
has an excellent calendar of wide-ranging cultural events.
